How to stay healthy when moving
Health is wealth. One of the biggest known contributors to health problems is stress. And moving is one of the most stressful periods one will go through. Therefore to avoid getting sick, here are a few tips on how to stay healthy when moving.
Reduce the stress as much as possible
When moving there are certain ways in which you can reduce stress to a more manageable level.
Organize
Having a plan and seeing it through saves you from a lot of unnecessary stress. Try to plan everything from packing, to loading up the truck, to moving. If you are having friends come over to help you, be sure that they have at least some experience in moving. Don’t invite too many friends and give clear and precise tasks to the ones you do. There is nothing more stressful than a bunch of people running around not being sure what to do next. A small and efficient group keeps the stress level to a minimum.
Packing
When packing try to relax if you want to stay healthy when moving. If you rush it, not only are you risking bad packing but you are increasing your stress level. Give yourself time. Play some music. Make it a fun experience. Go from room to room and clear it out. The whole thing will seem a lot easier when you can see the results of your work. Always remember to pack with care. Carefully sort, pack and label everything that you need.
Moving
Find out as much as you can about the location where you are moving to. How to get there, what’s the parking situation, when is the best time to go in order to avoid rush hour? Knowing all of this things will keep you relaxed and in control. If you are moving to a different state, be sure to find out all the legal papers you might need for your transport vehicle.
Consider hiring professional movers
As any boss can tell you, being in charge is not all its cracked up to be. Stress is always there, and if you want to avoid it you should consider hiring professional movers. Now, hiring a decent moving company comes with its own troubles. But when you find one, you are good to go. Also, consider hiring someone to help you pack. There are companies that offer both moving and packing services and if you financially can, be sure to let someone more experienced do the moving. There is a lot to be gained by staying healthy while moving, and the cost of hiring professional movers is always worth it.
Give yourself time and space for mistakes
However airtight your plan seems to be, always leave room for mistakes. They can, and usually do happen in surprising ways, especially if it is your first time moving. Give yourself room for them, so that you won’t have to rush anything or anyone. Proper moving takes time, and you should be sure to respect that.
Start having good life habits in order to stay healthy when moving
Some things need time in order to take full effect. All of the following things you can start doing when you start moving, but we suggest starting them months before, in order to get the maximum effect.
Eat healthily
Hormones in our body affect our nervous systems. They have a major impact on how well we sleep and how well our body recovers. And the food we eat impacts our hormones. So a good diet is one your best friends if you want to stay healthy when moving. Eliminate candy, soft drinks, and junk food. Eat meats, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. There are many different diets and there is no ultimate one. You need to find the one that is right for you. Even though you will feel tired, try to avoid caffeine and sugar as much as you can. Sure they give you a temporary energy boost but your body gets dependant on them. Not only that, but it also develops tolerance, so if you want to have the same effect as last time you will need to take more. If it is necessary, sure, give yourself a little boost. Just don’t make it a habit.
Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water. Our body is 60% and we need to replenish that, especially when we are in a time of stress. When you have a lot on your mind, and you will when you move, you’ll tend to forget to drink water or not postpone drinking when you feel thirsty in order to get more things done. This is a mistake since your body will interpret you not drinking water as a sign of water not being around and start survival mechanisms in your body. Those mechanisms include elevating alertness and using a lot of energy. Wich will increase your agitation and stress. So be sure to stay hydrated in order to stay calm. There is a reason why water calms us.
Get enough sleep
Another thing that suffers greatly from a bad diet is sleep. Sleep is necessary. It lets our brain and body rest in ways that are impossible in a wake state. When dealing with a lot of stress be sure to do what you need to do in order to get as much of natural(nod aided by drugs) sleep. Food will have a great impact on your sleep quality, especially caffeine. Try and find natural ways which will help you relax before sleeping like reading or yoga. You don’t only need 8 hours of sleep, you need 8 hours of quality sleep. If you are already having trouble sleeping, try seeing a sleep therapist. Having a good night’s sleep can be hardly overestimated.
Avoid injuries
Injuries during the move are the thing that is most usually looked over by newcomers. Get protective equipment and clothing and study up on proper techniques when lifting heavy objects. If you have a friend that is more experienced in moving heavy objects, make him the person in charge. Stay safe and learn how to properly use your body.
