Things you can negotiate with your movers and the ones you can’t

You have decided to hire a moving company to help you relocate. There are many benifits of hiring a moving company, you want the benefits, but you also want to save some money- Moving companies can add additional fees to bulk up the price. To help you not get rip off we are here to help you with things you can negotiate with your movers and the ones you can’t.

First of three things you can negotiate with your movers is the price of the move

Before hiring a moving company you need to negotiate to save money. You can negotiate the price of the move by researching other reputable moving companies in your area. Getting an estimate for your move is free, so get as many estimates as you can and compare them. Now that you have estimates pick the moving company that is best for your needs and ask them to match the lower prices of other moving companies.

When it comes to things you can negotiate with your movers price is the most important

You can’t negotiate on the price of the moving supplies

You are asking yourself, why can’t I negotiate the price of the moving supplies? The answer is simple moving companies don’t make the moving supplies. Relocation companies get their moving supplies from third parties. Those third parties set the price for the supplies and moving companies buy them. If you were to haggle over moving supplies with your movers, they will have to haggle with the company that provides them the supplies. Getting cheap supplies for moving companies is a no-go. If you want to save money on supplies, go somewhere else. Maybe, get some specialized moving supplies from your moving company, that can’t be easily found.

The second of three things you can negotiate with your movers is the extra fees

What are the extra fees and where to find them? To locate the extra fees you must read the moving contract. All of the extra fees are in the moving contract. Those fees include: supplies, furniture disassembly, etc. Look over the contract carefully, and see if you are being billed for fees that you weren’t provided, and make sure that they take them off of your bill.

Movers don’t control the cost of gas so you can’t negotiate transport prices

You can’t negotiate over transport prices

The same concept applies here as with the moving supplies. The price of gas is out of the moving companies hands so you can’t negotiate over the transport charges. To help you save money and keep you in a good mood during your relocation we recommend selling some of your stuff. By selling your stuff you will lower the price of the transport because a less heavy truck uses less gas

The last of three things you can negotiate with your movers is the price of the move depending on the season

Pick a moving season that isn’t popular for moving, like fall. Moving in the fall is a good idea because moving companies don’t have many customers. By not having many customers it makes the moving companies vulnerable to haggling. During off-seasons, moving companies will not only lower their prices but offer great discounts.
