Perks of Living in Toronto – Should you try it?
As an established Torontian I’d like to talk about a few perks of living in Toronto. I know everyone thinks their native city is the best city in the world, but make no mistake – Toronto is the best city in the world. Either your job is relocating you to Toronto, or you fell in love with someone here – the reasons are irrelevant. You must live here, at least for a year or two, and experience the wonders!
Living here has endless perks so I’ll point out a few of my favorite. The list will be incomplete as I don’t have enough room to cover it all. But rest assured, Toronto has a little bit of something for everyone!
Generation Y Booming
If you’re a millennial, or you enjoy spending time with them, you’ll be surrounded by this generation everywhere you go! You’ll be able to make friends left, right and center. Plus you’ll be surrounded by people with the same ambition as you, same energy and same drives! The generation Y mentality forces innovation and evolution, so you’ll have to understand that you will be a part of a fast moving environment. There is no rest for the wicked, because if you’re caught sitting around for too long – you’ll be left behind. This is one of my favorite perks of living in Toronto, since I love fast moving environments!
If you’re up for such an adventure there are not many things that could ever stop you!
You Don’t Own a Car? No Probs!
Yep, exactly what I wrote. You do not need a car to get by in Toronto! The city is organized in such a way that you’re able to get just about anywhere on foot! And if by any chance you can’t, the Toronto TTC will help you get around quick and cheap!
Granted, having a car is nice and being able to stay cozy and warm inside of one is even nicer. But this is more of a ‘would like to have’ than a ‘must have’. If this will allow you to save up a couple of hundreds of dollars on insurance, parking and other expenses – you should definitely take it!
Toronto is a Fun – Party City!
Torontians aren’t really ashamed of partying on a Monday or a Tuesday. Or a Wednesday. The city motto is – we work hard, but play twice as hard. Everyone here works really hard, but we play a lot more. Okay, our play time is earned! The night life is absolutely stunning. And the best part of it is the fact that there is a neighborhood for just about anyone. If you prefer the clubbing scene – King Street will be your temple. You’ll never want to leave it, regardless of which day of the week it is!
One of the best aspects of our nightlife is the very religious dedication to our brunches. The city mentality is such that doesn’t frown upon people enjoying themselves during the night. Hence, it is quite understandable that many will not really be in the mood to get up in the morning for breakfast. This is where that glorious brunch comes into play. It is almost like a religion! Numerous restaurants will have brunch menus that are available until 15h or even 16h. And they are delicious! Some people I know would unanimously agree that one of the biggest perks of living in Toronto is the everyday access to brunch menus.
Toronto is the Favorite Destination for Many Musicians and Festivals!
I could not emphasize this anymore than this! If you love music and going out for a good concert – you’ll love Toronto! Countless famous performers almost never skip placing Toronto on their tour map. I can’t even recollect all of the concerts I’ve been to in the past 5 years.
So if you have a favorite artist you’d really love to see live and you see that they are organizing a tour – don’t fret. There is almost zero chance that this artist will skip Toronto. I mean, the memories I have from OVO, VELD, Digital Dreams, Wayhome and many others… Priceless!
Making Friends From All Over The World- One of the top perks of living in Toronto
One of my absolute favorite perks of living in Toronto is the fact that I was able to make friends from all over the world! The reasons are irrelevant, whether they are here for school, work or just because they heard about how awesome this place is. I’ve met and befriended people from Venezuela, Brazil, Serbia, Italy, Spain, France and Russia! So many cultures, so many languages… I mean it’s almost like I’ve been traveling without a passport!
The amount of unique individuals you will meet is astounding. And you should make the most out of this because you never know where you might end up living at some point in your life.
Huge City – Low Crime
If you relocate to Toronto you’ll be doing all of the above mentioned things. But the absolute best part about it is the fact that you’ll be safe the entire time! It’s astounding, but despite it’s size Toronto is one of the safest big cities in the world and the safest large city in North America! Better yet, Toronto crime rates keep falling down!
Aside from this fact – this still is a major city! So don’t think that you’re absolutely safe everywhere all the time. There are going to be pockets of the city where a girl shouldn’t be alone in after midnight (Scarborough being one of them). But if the trend continues, such neighborhoods can only become safer.
All in all, this was a short list of my favorite perks of living in Toronto. I am truly hopeful that you’ll try it out yourself and compile a list of your own!
Good luck!
